Nasyam is a part of panchakarma in ayurveda treatments. It is a medication done through nose. Nostrils are considered to be the door way to head. This is a treatment for cleansing the areas above the shoulder basically nose, throat, sinuses and head. It is commonly used to treat diseases like paralysis, Parkinson's disease, complex headache, acute sinusitis, diseases of the head, neck and nose, Bell's palsy, Arthritis, and cervical spondylosis. The face, shoulder and chest are massaged softly with medicated oil. Then a medicated oil or herbal powder is instilled into the nostrils drop by drop or blown in at a stretch respectively. Medicated oils and the quantity to be used in this treatment are directed by the physician according to the conditions of the patients. This treatment is done for a course of 7 days, 14 days etc. according to the instructions of the physician depending on the conditions of the patient..

Main types of nasyam are virechana nasyam, dhmana nasyam, brumhana nasyam and shamana nasyam. Nasyam not only helps in removing toxins from the head, neck, brain, eyes, ear, nose and throat region, but it also helps in snehan (unction), shaman (pacifying the toxins without removing them), bhringan, tarpan (nourishment) and gives immunity to these parts.
